Match Preview: Albany vs. Syracuse (6/9)
The Albany Rebels will host the Syracuse Gaels in the first leg of the New York Cup on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Albany College of Pharmacy turf field. The Rebels (1-4) are coming off their lone win of the season and some quality training sessions.
Albany lost its last match against Syracuse in the final leg of last year's New York Cup. The defeat snapped a 9-game winning streak against Syracuse, and along with a draw against Buffalo the same day, handed the inaugural trophy to Buffalo.
“We didn’t do enough in either of those matches,” said midfielder Mark Adam. “This is an opportunity to make up for that, show how much we’ve improved and win an important match for our club.”
Following Saturday's 7s match, Albany and Syracuse will play a mixed 13s friendly and then meet for food and drinks at the Irish Hall on Ontario Street.
Admission is free to the games. All fans are welcome to the postgame party at the Irish Hall.
