Rebels Run Out of Steam in Montreal
Short on numbers and lacking midseason fitness levels, the James Connolly Albany Rebels lost all three games in the Montreal 9s Tournament in Quebec on Saturday. The Rebels lost to Montreal (2-1, 0-1), Quebec (4-4, 0-3) and Ottawa (4-4, 1-3) to place 4th in the Junior Division.
The Rebels were down by slim halftime margins against Montreal and Quebec, but with no subs due to injury, they couldn’t keep up as the games wore on.
After giving up a quick point to Ottawa in the third and final game, Ryan Moloney scored a goal to give Albany an early lead. Mike Lee added two points later in the game, but the Rebels lost to the eventual tournament champion.
“It was really positive to see that none of the players quit and all continued to fight until the last whistle,” Lee said. “Montreal did a great job as the host, and we're looking forward to next year, with the hopes of getting some better results.”
