Montreal Tournament Preview (May 21)

The Albany Rebels will seek to defend their title at the Montreal Shamrock Tournament on Saturday at the Montreal Irish Rugby Grounds in St. Julie, Quebec. The Rebels won the Junior Football Championship at this tournament in 2019, the last time it was held due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Three years later, the Rebels will have a different looking roster as they return only five players from that tournament victory.

"This is one we have circled on our calendar every year," said Rebels player-coach Ryan Moloney. "We're looking forward to getting the first chance to defend our title in three years and getting some of our newer players the experience of a great weekend in Montreal with the team."

The Rebels will face Quebec at 1:52 p.m. and Calgary/Kingston at 4:38 p.m. as a part of group play. Once all of the group games have been played, the knockout round begins. The two 3rd place teams in each group will face each other in the 5th Place Match and the other four teams will advance to the semifinals. Games will be played 9v9 with 8-minute halves.

Following the tournament, all teams will meet at Hurley's Irish Pub in Montreal for a post-tournament party.
