After Long Wait, Rebels Stand Ready for New Season

After missing the entire 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, when sports were suspended across the globe, the Albany Rebels are ready to begin a new campaign later this month. The 2021 schedule includes five full-sided matches and the opportunity to compete for a New York Cup championship.

The season opens on Saturday, May 15 with the Rebels visiting the Dutchess County Griffins at 12:30 p.m. at Tymor Park in Lagrangeville.

The schedule also includes four league matches against the Buffalo Fenians and Syracuse Gaels as part of the 4th annual New York Cup. The Rebels’ first league game will be at Syracuse on Saturday, June 12.

The winner of the New York Cup will gain entry into the Midwest Finals.

“It is very exciting to be entering a new season, especially as we have added hurling,” said Rebels chairman Cillian Flavin. “Hopefully we can grow the hurling side of our club and enjoy a successful football season.”

Admission is free for all home games.
