The James Connolly Albany Rebels will host their season opener against the Hartford Gaels on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the Albany College of Pharmacy turf field in Albany, N.Y.
The match is also the first leg of the second annual Greenwood Cup played between the two clubs. Hartford won the inaugural Greenwood Cup last season with two victories by a combined score of 4-20, 1-9 (32 points to 12 points).
The Rebels are looking for payback, while at the same time, getting a look at their new squad. Five Rebels - Tom Caldwell, Mikey Heiserman, RC Helsing, Roshal Patel and Matt Skalak - are expected to make their debuts on Sunday.
"From the off season through the preseason we have had an encouraging level of commitment from our newer players and the level of intensity has been rising steadily at training," said Ryan Moloney, Rebels forward and co-head coach. "Hartford has always provided us with a very competitive and difficult fixture, whether home or away. This is the perfect chance for every Rebel, both veterans and rookies alike, to kick off the 2019 season and show what we've been working so hard at."
