Match Preview: Albany vs. Hartford (4/29)

The James Connolly Albany Rebels will host their season opener against the Hartford Gaels on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. on Sullivan Field at Plumeri Sports Complex in Albany, N.Y.

The match is also the first leg of the inaugural Greenwood Cup played between the two clubs.

The Greenwood Cup will be a home-and-home series between Albany and Hartford. The name comes from Greenwood Road, the road built in 1799 to connect Albany and Hartford. The winner of the cup will be the team with the highest aggregate score between Sunday’s match in Albany and the match on May 12 in Hartford.

The Rebels enter the season with positive energy after four pre-season outdoor training sessions. The club returns many contributors from last season and will dress five rookies in the home opener.

"We are looking forward to our first match of the year against Hartford. The new cup format will only improve an already great rivalry between our two clubs," said Rebels head coach Tim Gerrish. "With some familiar faces and a few new ones sprinkled in, we are excited for the season ahead."
